2 years of PTI with the economy

As PTI comes onto two years, I felt like making this post on account of seeing multiple people supporting PML-N for having an allegedly better economy for Pakistan, particularly with allegations present that PTI has done nothing for the economy. So here's a short list of some major achievements done by PTI in contrast to PML-N.
This is by no means a highly comprehensive list, just my opinion on some of the bigger achievements; saving the economy from defaulting, adopting tax reforms, tourism reforms, export reforms among them whilst managing covid and economic stability with relative success.
There are of course a multitude of other factors, successfully avoiding a blacklist from the FATF, macroeconomic reforms, attempts to strengthen the working class; ehsaas programs, Naya Pakistan housing schemes alongside other relief efforts. These are measures in accordance with curtailing the effect of increasing taxation and attempts to abate the economic slowdown that came as a result of forcing an increase in government revenue. Alongside the focus on multiple new hydroelectric dams, industrial cities, reduction of the PM office staff from 552 to 298, 10 billion tree project and an overall renewed interest in renewable energy and green Pakistan. The list is comprehensive.
Pakistan remains on a rocky path, it is not out of the woods yet. Covid-19 has seriously hampered the overall projections, and caused a worldwide economic contraction. Not only that, but there are criticisms that can be attributed to the government as well, as they are not without fault. However, the overall achievements of the government with regards to the economy do present hope for the long-term fiscal policy and development of Pakistan.

Bitcoin has more intrinsic value than stocks

A common argument thrown by traditional investors is that cryptocurrencies don't have an intrinsic value. The classical example is saying that Bitcoin is not as good as gold because you can build stuff with gold, while Bitcoin's only use is speculation, but I don't find this true at all.
First of all, you can use Bitcoin to pay fees to write into the most decentralized and robust database in history. That by itself has instrinsic value. And second but not less important, you can actually own Bitcoin easily. A lot of investors don't actually possess gold. They posses contracts that say that they own gold “somewhere” with no easy way or no way at all to redeem it. So you usually couldn't due anything with the gold you “own”. You cannot melt it, forge it, or anything.
Same for stocks. They often are not under your name. Heck, sometimes there are not even stocks involved at all. You only have a contract that tracks the price of them. So, a lot of people can't do anything with their stocks other than trading them through intermediaries and during trading hours/days. You usually don't receive a dividend or have a way to vote on the company's direction. Unlike some cryptocurrencies that actually provide you with that and you can actually own by yourself, unlike the gold, stocks, or forex, you probably would never be able to withdrawn (only your balance in a specific asset, not in any other of the assets you allegedly possess).
Yesterday I tried to discuss this on investing, and I got a lot of backlash, with a lot of people missing the point, thinking that I was suggesting buying stocks based on the dividends they offer or something similar, which is far from what I'm saying. So I thought about starting the same discussion in this community to see if the argument lands better or I'm really missing something here.
What do you think?

Thoughts on Forex?

Lately I’ve been moving out of the rat race. I’m leaving typical 9-5 life alone. I’ve always wanted to start my business ventures but I’ve lacked capital. So of course I started learning to trade currencies in the Foreign Exchange Market.
Now my question is why does Forex specifically the iMarketlive community receive so much backlash surrounding this industry? Do people not aim to make a stable income from their phone simply by learning a skill?

Just how did the British steal from India. A brief explanation of the systems and flows of the Raj that allowed the loot

Many big numbers and statements are thrown around, "the British looted $75tn", "the British stole from India" and so on and so forth, the question though is, how was this actually done? The below is a very brief primer on how the British exploited India.
The short answer is brutally simple and effective.
Suck out raw materials from India, make it a captive market for finished British goods
But the question is then, how will a bankrupt India pay for the British imports? And that's where we come across the first set of complications and the start of the web of British trade with London in the centre.
The triangle
To allow Indian markets the ability to consume British products, you first need to generate some form of income.
Enter China and the Opium wars.
A brief on the Opium wars though as it is largely unknown to most people. One way the EIC funded it's expansionist wars in India in the 1750's was by illegally exporting Opium from India into China. By the late 1770's it was Illegally exporting some 300,000 KG of Indian Opium into China. To put things into context Escobar used to smuggle about 1,00,000 kg of cocaine every year into the USA. The EIC smuggled in 3 times that much and we are just beginning b
The Chinese protested, ofc they did. They raided ships carrying cocaine, imposed laws banning it's usage, but the EIC protested to the British govt strongly it's rights to smuggle Opium and things continued.
By 1830 the British (and Americans now) were smuggling some 2.3mn tonnes of Opium every year. That is 23 times what Escobar managed.
Apologists to British war crimes can't even argue that this was all illegal as the full support of the British govt was behind this. Even a direct letter to Queen Victoria, pleading for the British to stop this trade fellow deaf years.
All the cocaine then used to be shipped to Canton (it was a free port under control by the Western govts) from where it would be trafficked inland. After all the pleas and protests by the Chinese govt fell on deaf years and with an Opium epidemic caused by cheaply available Opium started to ravage the whole of south China, the Emperor had enough and ordered his troops into Canton to seize and destroy all opium stocks.
This triggered the first Opium war.
By the 1850's Britain was exporting some 6mn tonnes (60 times of Escobar) Opium from India to China.
This again caused a backlash in China and the 2nd Opium War which... amongst other things resulted in the legalisation of Opium consumption.
By the 1890's Opium exports touched 9mn tonnes (90 times Escobar)
And this was the source of money for India to buy British imports.
In India land "reforms" (they weren't reforms), taxation "reforms"(not reforms again) meant that from 1780-1840 there had been a crazy shift of cultivation patterns. It went from a balance of food and cash crops to a priority given to Cash crops (Opium, Cotton, Indigo etc). This was one of the leading causes for the genocidal famine mortality rates but more on that later.
In a nutshell, Indian large scale farmers acquired land from bankrupt farmers (Famines mostly) and started pushing cash crops > more Famines > more bankrupt farmers > more land purchased for almost free > more cash crops > more Famines.
These exports then earned enough cash to purchase British Imports.
In 1780 India was an exporting nation. By 1820 it was exporting ZERO finished goods and importing everything from Britain.
China till 1800 was the largest export nation on earth (Angus Maddison) and by 1830 a net importing nation.
In summary It was a triangular trade.
India exported Opium, Cotton Yarn to China > this enabled it to earn enough forex > purchase British goods.
Now mind you the British took away Indian cotton yarn (the raw material) to Britain at fixed rock bottom prices and this was spun into coarse finished cotton that came back to India.
End it part 1.
Part 2 I will cover the gold standard scam, cause for famine mortality rates and a summary to tie it all in.

Bitcoin (BTC) in Space: How Cryptocurrency Solves Interplanetary Payments

Bitcoin (BTC) in Space: How Cryptocurrency Solves Interplanetary Payments

https://preview.redd.it/vgflkm9pq3521.png?width=512&format=png&auto=webp&s=a822255aa5d6156920ea33b0efc979b152fba236
https://cryptoiq.co/bitcoin-btc-in-space-how-cryptocurrency-solves-interplanetary-payments/
Space exploration and colonization is an inevitable reality in the future. NASA and private corporations like SpaceX and Blue Origin already have the technology to launch missions to other planets, but they are taking their time to raise funds and ensure 100 percent success.
SpaceX says it will land people on Mars by 2024.
The richest man in the world and Founder of Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos, says he will create a large moon colony with or without NASA’s help.
Bitcoin with its instant, decentralized, and secure transactions that travel at the speed of light is obviously the perfect currency for space, but there are some downsides.
Here, we’ll explore the benefits of using Bitcoin in space as well as the caveats.
The cost of “launching” Bitcoin into space is simply the transaction fee, usually less than $1, plus however much it costs for the high powered antennas to communicate with the internet across long distances in space.
Compare this to fiat cash money, which would be impractical to launch into space due to the costs of rocket fuel. Launching a $20 bill into space costs $22. Perhaps launching $100 bills into space will work, but the fee would still be hard to stomach, and residents of the moon or other planets will not have any small bills or coins.
Perhaps a fiat system could be set up with all the $100 bills stored in a central repository and then people use digital ledgers to keep track, but why go through all that trouble if Bitcoin already solves this problem.
Decentralized currency will be important in space. For example, if Jeff Bezos decides to leave the Earth and become the emperor of the moon, there could be backlash from Earth governments.
This may sound outlandish, but it is inevitable that once colonization of other planets begins new countries will eventually form that have no territory on Earth. In the moon colony example, if they have USD bank accounts, they could find that all their cash becomes instantly frozen at the first sign of political trouble.
It will be just about impossible for a country on the moon or another planet to get their money back in the event of an account seizure. Just like Donald Trump says make America great again, whoever is President in the future could say make Earth great again, and seize all of the bank accounts of interplanetary nations in order to subsidize Earth’s economy. Space nations will need Bitcoin in order to conduct interplanetary commerce without the threat of account seizures.
The problem with centralized currency becomes even more severe for the space cowboys, people who go off into space and decide to do whatever they want to do. If they break a law in any jurisdiction, which could be as simple as taking their ship off-planet without permission, they would have their bank accounts frozen.
The only option for rogue space adventurers is to carry currency with them onboard, since if their bank is frozen, and they are depending on the bank, they will either die in space or have to go back to their planet and get arrested.
Due to the scarcity of cash in space, the only good option for space cowboys would be gold or Bitcoin. Gold is heavy, and would cost tremendous fees in the form of rocket fuel everytime they liftoff from a planet. Also, holding a large amount of gold on a spaceship would make them easy targets for space pirates. Bitcoin would never cost anything during liftoff, since it is on the internet, and it cannot be stolen unless the private key is given over.
Further, imagine if someone gets a job from an employer on another planet, which will be quite common in the interplanetary economy. Workers would likely never even meet their bosses, and the workers perhaps would not want the native currency on their employer’s planet, since they would never be able to physically own it.
Bitcoin can be personally owned no matter where people are in space, since Bitcoin is cryptographically secure, and possession of the private key provides full ownership, in the same way, holding cash in your wallet is full ownership.
As is already being witnessed on Earth, Bitcoin is a universal currency. Instead of making a complicated FOREX system in space wrought with account seizures and third parties, it makes much more sense to just use Bitcoin. A space economy fueled by Bitcoin would be far more liquid and efficient than a fiat currency economy.
There are caveats to using Bitcoin in space due to the speed of light. Bitcoin transactions would only be able to travel across space at the speed of light. This means it takes 1.28 seconds for Bitcoin to reach the moon from the Earth, three minutes to reach Mars, 33 minutes to reach Jupiter, and 67 minutes to reach Saturn. Double these times and add 10 minutes for the average Bitcoin transaction confirmation time on other planets.
We mention Jupiter and Saturn because they have numerous moons that are ripe for colonization and could be a hotspot for human civilization in the future.
The transaction times to other planets, even for Saturn which is over an hour, is not a major issue. Even if transactions take a long time to propagate to Earth and confirm, they would still be confirmed. Perhaps people on other planets should put the maximum sensible transaction fees to ensure that transactions confirm as quickly as possible once received.
Clearly, Bitcoin will no longer be instantaneous in space, since transactions would not even show up on the block explorer until the transaction propagates to Earth and back, but it will work.
Mining Bitcoin on other planets is a major dilemma. On the moon, mining Bitcoin will still be quite doable, since the few seconds delay is not going to prevent miners from striking blocks on the moon, it will just put them at a slight disadvantage.
Mining on Mars is where problems will begin. If a miner on Mars strikes a block, and someone on Earth finds the block in the 3 minutes it takes the Martian block to reach Earth, the Martian miner will not get paid. Some truly stubborn miners may mine Bitcoin on Mars, but they will be at an extreme disadvantage, and they will not profit nearly as much as Earth miners.
On the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, mining Bitcoin becomes intractable. In the 33 minutes and 67 minutes respectively it takes Bitcoin transactions to reach Earth, the Jupiter and Saturn miners will be disenfranchised 100 percent of the time. This actually makes Bitcoin centralized, at least on a planetary scale since whichever planet has the most hash rate will get all the block rewards.
This is just an Earth-centric view, however. Since Bitcoin is decentralized, another planet could generate 50 percent or more of the hash rate and disenfranchise all of the miners on Earth. To prevent this sort of thing from happening, perhaps it would be best to have Bitcoin Jupiter, Bitcoin Saturn, Bitcoin Earth, and so forth.
Versions of Bitcoin for different planets is especially important, considering that a planet that achieves a significant hash rate, but not a majority hash rate, would be dealing with constant forks.
For example, miners on the moons of Saturn may verify transactions and put them into blocks, only to have their chain orphaned whenever a transmission is received from Earth. If every planet is using the same version of Bitcoin, it would be much less confusing and more secure to only have miners on one of the planets.
Since it will be many years before colonization of other moons and planets becomes a reality, perhaps the Bitcoin developers will have time to optimize Bitcoin for use in space, to remove these caveats and ensure Bitcoin functions perfectly in space.

Desperate: How long to hold out / What would you do in my situation

Hey guys,
Throwaway, for obvious reasons. I'm a regular in /pf, /bitcoin and /bitcoinmarkets but I chose to make this account because my girlfriend is a redditor too and I don't want to get any backlash by posting this on my main account.
For that reason I need to obfuscate some details of my story but I think you guys will understand. I'm in a pretty bad situation and I need some advice on how to proceed.
A few years ago I became in charge of my family's finances. One of my parents passed much earlier than expected. My remaining parent didn't understand anything about finance or investing so I naturally stepped in to take over things and try to plan something for our family so that we could be financially secure for at least 10 or 15 years, enough time for me to get to a position in my career where I could take care of everyone with my own income stream.
I started learning about trading, first with Forex. I was trading EURUSD and USDJPY primarily just with small amounts at first. Spent a lot of time on babypips.com learning technical analysis and how to extract as much value as possible from chart patterns. When I started I just used small amounts of money. My initial bankroll was $500. I ended up using too much leverage and blowing through my whole account because of some poorly time trades. Yes I know I should have used some common sense and not taken gigantic risks but I was just learning at the time. I worked at it a bit and started getting profitable. I would usually do my work late at night watching charts and drinking espressos, and there were several times that I took positions that netted me large profits so I'm confident that I've learned from my early mistakes.
Then about a year and a half ago I started hearing about bitcoin, and how it was getting more valuable. I started reading about the blockchain, and this technology that is going to revolutionize the way the world thinks about money. I was excited about it, truly. I knew in my heart that this was going to be gigantic. So I took a leap. I took about half of all the cash I had in my checking account and deposited it at Mt.Gox. I didn't use any of the inheritance money, just my own from my part time job while I was a college student.
Yeah. I know. Terrible idea in hindsight. I never got the money out before the whole thing collapsed. I wish I hadn't done it, but at the same time it wasn't a great deal of money to learn a lesson. That we can't just trust individual exchanges.
Anyway, I learned a lot during that experience. I spent a lot of time analyzing charts. I learned how to use MACD and RSI indicators. I started getting good at being able to time things and on paper (of course) I was making very good profits. It's a shame that I didn't cash out before the whole thing went to shit because I probably would have enough money to last atleast a few years.
Anyway, after Gox, I became really depressed but I still believed in bitcoin. I still thought it was going to be around for a very long time so I started looking for some more honest exchanges. I knew that what happened to me was just an unfortunate event that was unlikely to happen again. After all, Gox was being run by a pretty shady group.
After I picked myself back up, I decided to deposit some of the inheritance money in some legitimate exchanges. In total we had about $300k after medical bills and other issues from the settlement of the estate. It was sitting in a checking account until about April of this year. I decided to put in $50k into two exchanges to diversify my risk exposure. Half I put into bitfinex and the other half I put into bitstamp. I spent 7 to 10 hours a day trading.
The problem is that I've been taking mostly long positions. Every time the price drops 30 to 40 dollars I have been telling myself this is it -- this is the bottom and will take a position to make up for previous losses.
I cannot understand why this is happening. I made some serious money several times but for the past 6 months or so I have taken huge losses. After the initial 50k I deposited another 50k, and then after losing much of that, and determining (wrongly, I might add, but I don't think my analysis was wrong) that we were definitely at the bottom, I went on to deposit another 125k. So far I am down a lot. My average cost per bitcoin is around $623.
The losses just keep compounding. I don't know what to do. I'm getting incredibly desperate and sallow. I don't know how I'm going to explain this to my family. They know very little about bitcoin, but I have mentioned it on occasion and how I'm an enthusiast. I've even sent my sister and cousins some bitcoin to get them started. But now I'm worried that maybe this isn't going to work out. Every day I get out of bed and dread looking at the price of bitcoin. Because I know its going to translate into losses on the positions I've taken. I have tried really hard to avoid looking at the price but at this point I cannot take it any more.
I'm just looking for a reason, any reason, to believe that things are going to get better. So far I've lost a lot of the estate money and I'll do anything to get it back. But I'm getting to the point where I feel like I might need to get to grips with reality and just cut my losses, admit to my family what I did and try to make it up to them.
So I ask of you, please convince me one way or another (with some solid reasoning) to either sell all the coins I have on margin right now or just hold fast and weather this storm.
Thanks

I think we should have an FAQ

I've been seeing a lot of the same (honest) questions popping up over and over again, such as "Isn't this illegal/unconstitutional?" "Won't this cause civil war?" "What will the currency be?" "What about American military bases?" and "This is a dumb response to a Trump presidency". I think we should maybe have one single thread to answer all of these questions so we have more space to talk about other issues and concerns.
Here would be my personal answers to these questions:
  1. Isn't this illegal/unconstitutional? Yes. But the method in which campaigns such as YesCalifornia have been planning it, there would be a long and arduous process involving approval from congress or the states. Although long, this process would be peaceful as well as perfectly legal and constitutional. First, there will be a referendum in 2019 to see if there is local support. From there (assuming California votes in favor), a supermajority in congress or a supermajority in a convention of states will grant a constitutional amendment that allows secession. Will this method be easy? No. But will it be legal? Yes.
  2. Won't this cause civil war? No. The Calexit movement is supposed to be 100% peaceful. If the US were to go to war with California, the winner of such a war would be clear (hint: it's the US) , so the best thing we can do is try to secede peacefully via a Constitutional amendment. If the US went to war with peaceful attempts, the international backlash would be immense considering the standards the US is expected to uphold in this day and age.
  3. What will the currency be? (assuming Calexit succeeds) The currency for the New California Republic could very well be the USD. The USD is actually an international currency, which means that it is perfectly fine for other countries to adopt it as their official currency without the US's consent. Independent countries like Ecuador, El Salvador, and Zimbawe all have the USD as their official currency. Source
  4. What about American military bases? (assuming Calexit succeeds) Obviously, the military bases in California are very valuable to the US government. An agreement can be established so that the US can keep their Californian bases. The US has many foreign military bases all around the world. With the proper agreement, US military bases in California can operate in the same way.
  5. This is a dumb response to a Trump presidency This isn't only about Trump's presidency. This is about the continuously divide in values and ideology between California and rest of the States. YesCalifornia has a more in depth explanation on their website. Just scroll down a bit and you'll find their '9 points for independence'.
I, of course, am no official leader of the Calexit movement or YesCalifornia. I'm just answering these questions based on the results of a bit of research and reading I've been doing.
Anyways, if I'm being honest here, I personally think that a Calexit would be highly unlikely to happen. But hey, it's worth a shot ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Pairs trading, not currencies – Like any other relationship, you should be aware of both sides. Success or failure in Binary Options trading depends on correct your estimates on both currencies components of the husband and how both affect on one another, not just one of them.
Knowledge is power – when it begins Binary Options Trading on the Internet, it is essential that you understand the basics of this market if you want to achieve the maximum benefit from your investment.
The main index in the Binary Options market is global events and news. For example, if we assume that the European Central Bank will issue a statement regarding the interest rates, the euro usually this event will cause a wave of activity in the market. Most of the new arrivals seem a backlash to such news as they close their trading positions to miss one of the best trading opportunities with a preference to wait until the market once again restless. The possibility of real profit in the Binary Options appear in times of volatility, not in the quiet times.
Trade is ambitious – many new traders are putting too restrictive orders in order to reap a very small profit. This approach is not desirable in options trading because despite being profitable in the short term (that is if you are lucky asset), you run the risk to be a loser in the long run because it will have to cover the difference between the prices of the question-and-take before they start making any profits, a which it is more difficult when you are a small trading at him when the biggest trades.
Trade cautiously exaggerated – just like rolling which is trying to reap a small profit all the time, the trader who puts a stop loss close with a broker retail orders is the other loses. As mentioned above, it must be given to the center of your trade fair opportunity to prove his ability on production. If the points did not put a reasonable stop loss so as to allow for your business that is showing its capacity to act, in most cases you will end this trade has reduced the ability after the loss of a small part of the submissions you with all trading center.
